Federal Funding Will Enable RT to Purchase 6 Additional Mini-Vans, Help Fund Operating Assistance By Mara Lee WASHINGTON, D.C. (OBSNews.com) – Today, Congresswoman Doris Matsui (D-Sacramento) announced that Sacramento Regional Transit (RT) has been awarded $488,000 in federal funding through a formula grant award made by the Department of Transportation. The funding comes at an important time for RT, which has been hit hard by a combination of State and local budget cuts, as well as decreased fares on ‘Furlough Fridays.’ “Continued federal investment in Sacramento’s Regional Transit is critical to our ability to keep public transit a reality in Sacramento,” said Rep. Matsui. “Every federal grant RT receives helps them off-set losses at the State and local level, and helps enable them to continue to provide a efficient and reliable transportation system that bring Sacramentans to work, to school, and back home to their families.” The $488,000 grant will be distributed through the Department of Transportation immediately. It will enable RT to purchase six additional mini-vans, as well as help fund operating assistance.
