Congresswoman Matsui Votes for Final Health Care Package

Thanks Constituents for Voicing Their Support for Health Insurance Reform

WASHINGTON, D.C. (OBSNews.com) – Today, Congresswoman Doris Matsui (D–Sacramento) joined her colleagues in the House of Representatives in supporting the final piece of the comprehensive health insurance reform package that will provide access to quality health care for American families and seniors at a price they can afford. The House passed technical amendments to health-care reconciliation legislation today, thereby strengthening the historic health care package that was signed into law by President Obama on Tuesday. Together, this historic reform package will make critical improvements in our nation’s health care system and, in doing so, will reduce the national deficit by $143 billion in the first 10 years.

Congresswoman Matsui, as a member of the House Rules Committee, delivered remarks on the House floor today advocating for the passage of this final piece of legislation. During her speech, Congresswoman Matsui thanked her constituents for sharing their stories with her, and for their strong support of reform efforts over the past year. Congresswoman Matsui Joins President Obama for Signing of Historic Health Care Legislation

WASHINGTON, D.C. (OBSNews.com) - Today, Congresswoman Doris Matsui (D–Sacramento) joined President Obama and Democratic Congressional leaders for the signing ceremony in the East Room of the White House of the historic health insurance reform legislation that will provide access to quality health care for American families and seniors at a price they can afford.

“It is a privilege to join President Obama and my colleagues for the signing of this critical piece of legislation that will make a difference in the lives of my constituents and of millions of Americans around the country,” said Congresswoman Matsui. “After hearing from thousands of people across Sacramento, I had the honor of casting a once-in-a-generation vote that finally reforms our health insurance system and puts patients first. The legislation signed by the President today will improve health care for 365,000 Sacramentans with health insurance, while providing coverage to 58,000 Sacramentans who are currently without health insurance.

House Passes Critical Health Insurance Reform Legislation

Congresswoman Matsui Votes to Ensure Quality, Affordable Health Care for Sacramento Families, Hold Insurance Companies Accountable, and Reduce the Deficit

WASHINGTON, DC (OBSNews.com) – Today, Congresswoman Doris Matsui (D–Sacramento) voted in support of the health insurance legislation that has been debated in the halls of Congress and across this country for the past year. She voted to ensure quality, affordable health care for Sacramento families and to hold insurance companies accountable. H.R. 3590, the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act, which was passed by the House today, will now be sent to the President for his signature. A separate bill, H.R. 4872, the Health Care and Education Affordability Reconciliation Act of 2010, which makes important improvements to the previously-passed Senate bill—is now being sent to the Senate for final passage. Together, these two bills comprise a health insurance reform package that will make critical short- and long-term improvements to the current system, while reducing the national deficit by $143 billion in the first 10 years.
