Federal Funding Will Enable RT to Purchase 6 Additional Mini-Vans, Help Fund Operating Assistance By Mara Lee WASHINGTON, D.C. (OBSNews.com) – Today, Congresswoman Doris Matsui (D-Sacramento) announced that Sacramento Regional Transit (RT) has been awarded $488,000 in federal funding through a formula grant award made by the Department of Transportation. The funding comes at an important time for RT, which has been hit hard by a combination of State and local budget cuts, as well as decreased fares on ‘Furlough Fridays.’ “Continued federal investment in Sacramento’s Regional Transit is critical to our ability to keep public transit a reality in Sacramento,” said Rep. Matsui. “Every federal grant RT receives helps them off-set losses at the State and local level, and helps enable them to continue to provide a efficient and reliable transportation system that bring Sacramentans to work, to school, and back home to their families.” |

By Doris Matsui WASHINGTON, DC (OBSNews.com) – Congresswoman Doris O. Matsui (D-Sacramento) issued the following statement at the close of today’s bipartisan, bicameral health care meeting with President Obama: “Today’s meeting was an important step in our nation’s debate about health insurance reform. It demonstrated the many positive aspects of the health reform bills before Congress, and gave Republican leaders in Congress yet another chance to put forth or support a plan that would hold insurance companies accountable, increase coverage, lower the price of health insurance for America’s families and businesses, and strengthen Medicare for America’s seniors. |

2009 Grant Awards Are Helping to Position Sacramento as Clean-Tech Capital By Mara Lee WASHINGTON, D.C. (OBSNews.com) – After touring green job training sites in Sacramento, Congresswoman Doris Matsui (D-CA) returned to the House of Representatives for the Second Session of the 111th Congress this week, praising Sacramento’s burgeoning clean-energy industry’s dedication to and aggressive pursuit of federal grant funding. The federal government made historic levels of grant funding available in 2009 through the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act, including the largest federal investment in renewable energy, energy-efficiency, and green job training in our nation’s history. Sacramento has been one of the largest beneficiaries of this funding in the country, largely due to the aggressiveness of local business, government agencies, and non-profit organizations in seeking out and applying for competitive grants. As a result of their efforts and the grants made available through the Recovery Act, our local economy has received $27,126,256 for job training and assistance in clean-energy jobs, and $18,651,100 for energy efficiency improvements and investments. The almost $48 million is in addition to the $127,506,261 million SMUD and their partners are receiving to install a comprehensive regional smart grid system to serve the Sacramento community. |
